Donald E. Roe

Donald E. Roe, 89, a lifelong Paxton resident passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Illinois Knights Templar Home in Paxton.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Glen Cemetery in Paxton with Rev. Bob Sherman officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Roe was born June 29, 1919, in Paxton, the son of Walter C. and Ethel V. Smith Roe. He married Kathryn L. Swenson June 15, 1945, at the bride's parents home in rural Rankin. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are a brother-in-law, Everett Swenson of Paxton and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Roe graduated from Paxton High School in 1937 and from the University of Illinois in 1941 obtaining a B.S. degree in agriculture. For 14 years he was manager of the grain elevator, the Quaker Oats Company in Elliott; for ten years he was Supervisor of Assessments in Ford County and for ten years he was Superintendent of the Department of Public Aid in Paxton, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Paxton Service Club and the Paxton Chamber of Commerce. He was a great lover of horses and had driven many miles in horse and buggy.

Memorials may be made to the Federated Church, the Ford County Historical Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Ruby M. Meredith

Ruby M. Meredith, 80, of Paxton passed away at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Asta Care Center in Paxton.

Private family graveside services will be held at Glen Cemetery in Paxton with Rev. John Davenport officiating. There will be no visitation.

Ruby was born September 6, 1927, in Radford, Virginia, the daugher of Montiezuma and Mary N. Owens Boothe. She married Rudolph Meredith October 2, 1945, in Pulaski County, Virginia. He preceded her in death June 14, 2004.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Meredith of Trophy Club, Texas; two daughters, Brenda (William) Bryant and Nora (Mike) Judge both of Paxton; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one great-grandson, four brothers and three sisters.

Ruby attended school in Pulaski County. She was a sales clerk at Oli's Shoe Store in Paxton for a number of years and worked in food service at Paxton High School ten years. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Paxton and enjoyed reading and gardening.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Harold M. Hanes

Harold M. Hanes, 75 of Hoopeston, a former Paxton resident died at 12:35 a.m.Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, IL. with Rev. Terry Westerfield officiating. Cremation will follow.

Visitation will be held Friday, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold was born Jan. 24, 1933 at Kankakee, IL the son of Walter and Burdella Greene Hanes. He married Judith A. Strayer Oct. 23, 1956 at Paxton.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Cunningham of Mahomet, Cheryl Schwanke of West Fork, Ark, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Vernon Sapp of Hoopeston and Bob Taylor of Itasca. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

Harold attended Watseka schools and was an elevator operator at the former Central Soya Plant, Gibson City, Illinois, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Paxton. He enjoyed traveling and was known as a "Handy-man" doing carpentry work and repairing cars.

June E. Wycoff

June E. Wycoff, 86 of Paxton passed away at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Parkside Manor in Columbia, MO.

Her funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells Street, Paxton, with Rev. Scott Huggins officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with the rosary at 6 p.m.

June was born February 19, 1922 at Ludlow, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest and Beatrice O'Donnell Brownfield. She married Lowell D. "Red" Wycoff June 13, 1941 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paxton. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter Paula Wycoff Lawless (Paul Humphrey) of Boonville, MO., one grandson, Jeffrey (Michelle) Lawless of Santa Fe, TX and twin great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Haley Lawless of Santa Fe, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Mary Magnuson.

She attended Ludlow schools and graduated from Paxton High School in 1940. She was employed by Hudson Drugs in Paxton thirty years, retiring in 1997. She and her husband lived in Paxton their entire married life and moved to Boonville,MO in 2006 to be near their daughter.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paxton, the C.C.W. and was selected as Honorary Woman of the Year by St. Mary's CCW in 1999.

She enjoyed being with her family, and especially enjoyed her twin great-granddaughters.

Loretta M. Logan

Loretta M. Logan, 95, of Paxton died at 6:35 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2008, at Asta Care Center, Paxton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Scott Huggins officiating. Burial will be in Elliott Cemetery, Elliott.

Visitation will be held Monday 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton with the rosary at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Logan was born August 17, 1912, at Melvin, Illinois, the daughter of Harrison M. and Eva M. Durbin Williams. She married Herman L. Logan September 25, 1929, at Lady of Lourdes Church in Gibson City. He preceded her in death in 1979.

She is survived by one grandson, Robert M. Sonne of Paxton; a granddaughter, Michele Neifing of Dudley, Mass; one great grandson, Jeremy Meier of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Jean Neifing who died March 3, 1981 and her parents.

Loretta spent her early years in Lamberton, Minn. where she attended school. She and her husband moved to Paxton from Elliott in August 1930. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paxton, St. Mary's C.C.W.; a member of the church choir; was active in many commissions in C.C.W.; was selected Woman of the Year in 1974 by C.C.W.; assisted in organizing the P.T.A. in Paxton; was chairman of Commission of Community Affairs. She concentrated on Sr. Citizens Projects including making up to 120 baskets of homemade candies at Christmas that were delivered to the nursing homes and to the U.S.O. at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul; was involved in the Tele-Care Project and had served on the Board of Election and various charity drives.
